For those who may not be able to verbally communicate their needs to emergency services, there are some available options:

In the Pine Island Fire Department service area, our dispatchers are able to communicate via Text-To-911 with any caller that has a registered phone (a phone that receives a bill). Our services do not include the ability to receive location information with the text call, so that information would need to be shared with the person texting our dispatchers. Our dispatchers also are able to communicate by TTY for hearing impaired, or by MN Relay services. The PIFD is currently working on creating a premise response file with our dispatchers which allows for a more immediate response by first responders. This information includes the name of the person attempting to contact through one of these services: i.e. name, medical information, contact information, next-of-kin, phone numbers, etc.
